In-spite of prohibiting the political organisation of other parties for more than 30 years, the NRM has greatly lost both political ground to those same parties, such as FDC, and the moral authority of the leaders to lead the country.
Political ground in terms of the masses who welcome and support the leading opposition party, and moral ground in terms of hope the people have in the leaders of the opposition, such as Besigye, Mao, Mafabi, Lukwago, Bobi Wine, etc as opposed to NRM leaders.
The NRM simply continue to delude themselves that they ‘have majorities’ in parliament and in districts; the people know very wear that this is a false majority. The people know very well that way back in the pre-elections period, the regime, uses state intuitions carry out their dirty political party work; their message on ground nolonger hold; they staffs the electoral body from top to bottom with its cadres, to steal the election. they prohibit political activities and organizing of the the opposing political actors, calling in police and army units to disperse their massive crowds, denying them accessto radios and TVs, etc.
And yet still the real masses upcountry in remote towns and villages still brazenly show up in massive numbers that dwarf the regime’s scarecrow security put on opposition rallies.
Yet the NRM comes out with its illusions – from fake election, to fake leaders declared, and claim a fake majority in parliament and districts. They staff the courts with fake judges to hold fake rulings on politics, uphold fake leaders in office. They massively steal public funds, and send their cadres with sacks of money pay off people in fake groups in the name of ‘development’ but the people paid like this take the money and still don’t vote them, choosing instead to follow and believe in change, many confirming that they do this for survival.
With such a staggering duplicity, the NRM party today holds ‘formal’ authority; all the ‘moral’ authority and public interest now fully belongs to the opposition political leaders, especially those who expose such shams and refuse bribes – like when Bobi Wine refused the massive money given to all musicians to sign praises for the regime candidate; when he offered himself for election, the public massively elected him as an MP in-spite of state deployment of army and police to disperse hi supporters, while propping up their own candidate. It was such an embarrassment to the regime. The same embarrassment happens in the west where people don’t get interested in the vising of regime leaders but massively come out on the largely sneaky and unannounced visiting of opposition leaders such as Besigye.
The NRM long ago lost its freedom fighting days appeal, freedom for who? certainly not the freedom of the people. Now it fights are for the ‘freedom’ of its cadres who have been rejected by the public to stay in power.
Opposition forces now hold this appeal. NRM is a party of stocking terror and fear in people, it surrendered the role of giving hope and freedom long ago, to opposition leaders.
It now remains for all the agents of freedom and change to become better organised, better ideological, better prepared to engage the irrelevant regime on all its fronts, for the masses to seize back their full powers and elect their true leaders, and do away with impostors.
As for NRM, its can only remain the party of disillusioned fanatics and leaders who have no permission to think on their own
